SHEK: Hekate Triple Goddess Wall
Hanging (12" x 9")
This wall plaque is based on a fairly late image of
Hekate, from about 200-300 C.E. However, Hekate is a pre-Titan Greek
Goddess whose complex meaning has changed over time. She first appeared
in Asia Minor as a Great Mother figure. About 400 B.C.E., Hekate began
to be depicted as a three faced Goddess around a central pillar, associated
with fertility, triplicity, & the pillar (the World-Tree). Hekate
later took on aspects of the Moon Goddess & the underworld & became
a patroness of the crossroads. It is perhaps from these later attributions
that Hekate received her more macabre associations, such as a sinister
crone, rather than a representation of Maiden, Mother & Crone & their
interplay. This wall-hanging statue is made of hydrostone clay & has
a stone finish, with attached wall hanger. Figure is in 3-D relief.
Heavy weight.12" wide x 9" tall.
